South Korea donates around 28,000 coronavirus test kits to Ethiopia
h2>Johannesburg, May 13 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean Embassy in Ethiopia said on Tuesday (local time) that delivered nearly 28,300 South Korean coronavirus test kits as humanitarian aid to the African nation.
According to the embassy, coronavirus test kits, face masks, hand sanitizers and antiseptics, valued at around $470,000, were provided to the Ethiopian Ministry of Health to help combat the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Not only the South Korean government, which contributed approximately $200,000, but also South Korean companies that have a presence in the African country -EKOS, LG and Daewoo E&C-, non-governmental organizations such as Good Neighbors, the International Cooperation Agency Korea International (KOICA) and the Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) provided humanitarian assistance.
South Korea's ambassador to Addis Ababa, Lim Hoon-min, said South Korea will actively cooperate in its fight against COVID-19 with Ethiopia, which participated in the 1950-53 Korean War, adding that Coordinated action and unprecedented global solidarity are needed to tackle the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Ethiopian Health Minister Lia Tadesse expressed her gratitude to the South Korean government and the South Korean community in Ethiopia for their assistance and solidarity during the donation ceremony, saying she is proud of their sister country, which is successfully overcoming the coronavirus crisis.
Ethiopia has so far reported 261 infections and 5 deaths from the novel coronavirus.
