Eyeliner is possibly the most difficult part of an entire makeup routine. It can feel like the stakes are high – after all, it can mess up everything from your eyeliner to your shadows to concealer.

How to line the eyes, step by step

Step 1: Choose the correct color

The right eyeliner color for you is a matter of personal preference. As a general rule of thumb, black eyeliner will create a more dramatic effect, while brown eyeliner will offer something a bit more neutral. You can also go out of the box with eye crayons.

Step 2: Prepare your eyelid

The only downside to pencil eyeliner is that it usually doesn't last as long as other types of eyeliner. To make sure your eyeliner lasts as long as possible, wipe off any excess oil on your lid and use an eye primer.
