The traditional primary classification of the EPR is maintained, in accordance with EN, regarding the operating principle in which the air is supplied to the user, that is:
a) Filtration: where the RPE removes gases, vapors and/or particles from the environment through the appropriate filter, for example self-filtering masks, facial pieces with one or two filters (figure 1).
b) Supply of breathable air: when the RPE provides air to the user from a remote source or incorporates a reserve of breathable air or regenerates exhaled air, for example, airline equipment, autonomous equipment with compressed air or oxygen bottle (figure 2) .
