Beauty trends are the order of the day, which is why when an influencer uses it on her social networks, it quickly becomes viral.

This was the case of one of the latest developments that emerged on Tik Tok, dermaplaning or female facial shaving . It consists of a method of mechanical, non-chemical exfoliation of the skin by manipulating a scalpel. It is a 10-gauge scalpel, that is, a type of sterile carbon steel surgical scalpel that can be used to remove dead cells that have been deposited on the skin.

Dermaplaning is a superficial exfoliation of the skin that is performed with a scalpel with the aim of improving the quality of the skin, giving homogeneity, smoothness and luminosity to the face. Likewise, it allows better absorption of moisturizing creams and masks, ” Johanna Gleiser, dermatologist (MN 126729), explained to Infobae.

For her part, the dermatologist Fiorella Marta (MN: 153762) added that, in addition, it fulfills the function of eliminating dead skin cells, and removes unwanted hair and even the thin “peach fuzz”, which corresponds to the blond or white hairs that we easily see against the sun.

For the dermatologist María Florencia Paniego (MN 94,996), this routine is advertised as the panacea to solve all your problems and give you a magical glow up in a matter of minutes, but she assures that except for the botulinum toxin and a dermatological skin care routine, magic does not exist.

Although this can be done in the privacy of homes and is a tool that can be easily purchased online, there are other treatments that are performed in cabinets and in offices that have excellent results to leave the facial skin glowing. Some of them are: diamond tip, peeling or cryopeeling, but for these to have a good result, must be done by a professional.

Unlike other exfoliations such as diamond tips, peeling and cryopeeling, among others, dermaplaning produces a shave of facial hair. To obtain a good result, it must be carried out by a trained and experienced professional. It is important to always use sunscreen after treatment.

When should the treatment be done?

Dermaplaning is usually carried out once a month and, although it has many qualities, it is important that skin with acne do without treatment. And it is that there is a possibility that the granites become infected when passing the shaving tool through the skin.

“It is very important not to expose the skin to the sun after undergoing this technique. This is because it removes the most superficial layers of the complexion and ultraviolet rays can cause the appearance of spots, burns and redness”, explained María Florencia Paniego.

“It has an excellent finish but in the short term. Not suitable for all skin types, nor to be carried out by non-professional hands. In my opinion, I prefer a more progressive and gradual result, with the use of household acids at low concentrations. That if you notice any unwanted effect, the treatment can be suspended, "explained Fiorella Marta.

For her part, Johanna Gleiser commented that in terms of specific times of the year, it should be done in autumn and winter but, if the patient takes care and uses sunscreen, it can be done at any time of the year.
